Quick Thought: #LightTheWorld

 Here's the church's calendar for #LightTheWorld

Here's a relevant drawing from "Uday.G.Mohite: Illustrations."

I have mixed emotions about this because I enjoyed some of the #givethanks posts.  But some of the encouragement in the calendar to post on social media is troubling.  Look at the 1st and 6th, for example.  Matthew chapter 6 comes to mind.

This is a marketing campaign for the church.  Which is great if you think the church is great.  But let's be clear: this is a marketing campaign for the church.

The best thing the church has done for their members with regard to social media is encourage a 1-week fast.  My wife and I do that from time to time and it's very soothing for the mind.

  1. I've actually thought the same. It appears to be a sneaky way to promote the church. Its a public promotion of look how good we are. Or maybe thats just my pessimist side

    1. I wouldn't call an official hashtag "sneaky." It's just a marketing campaign. Like I said, if you think the church is great, then this is great. People doing good AND marketing for the church! Win-win! It's just... not what the scriptures teach.
